Technology and learning development

We discussed in class the importance of non-verbal cues and discussed the impact adolescence has on learning development (see below). We also talked about how technology can negatively impact social development because our focus is  removed from everything else.

So for our blog post using the above chart, pick one element of development under Early or Middle Adolescence and make an argument for or against using a phone in school. Then go online and find an article that supports or negates your position and give us a brief summary of what the article states.

For example: During Early Adolescence as my intellectual interests expand I need a phone to engage more with what I'm interested in studying. The article I found talks about how 75% of students using cell phones in class are performing worse than those without. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/04/do-smartphones-have-a-place-in-the-classroom/480231/

Please include a link to your source in the comment as demonstrated in the example above.

  1. In middle adolescence, I gain a greater capacity for setting goals. Having my phone in the classroom could help me organize and set goals and reminders in a place that I’ll definitely check. However, the phone could also distract me from my goals as I get distracted and fall into an endless loop of memes. The article I found talks about how phones in class allow kids to text themselves homework reminders and how it enables education to be a tap away. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/27/students-use-cellphones-as-part-of-classroom-lessons/1794883/

  2. I chose middle adolescence and populaterity becoming important because this is a big issue with teenagers especially girls today. Social media has put a lot of pressure on teens to day to be popular. With social media, people can meet people so quickly. And with social media it kinda makes teens want to know everyone and have the most followers on all social media platforms. It's like a worldwide popularity contest.

  3. The article I found is about Social media technologies offer an exciting new means for engaging and communicating with adolescents and young adults; and it says that is has been successfully used to engage this age group, identify behaviors, and provide appropriate intervention and education. https://www.jmir.org/2015/1/e4/
